Briquetting of Biomass: The Changing Face of Energy

It is worth going back to the times to understand how energy has changed over a period of time. The history of human energy has been shaped by densification. For many years, biomass has always been a constant and controllable source of energy.

The briquetting plant machine exporters view it as a huge opportunity to generate wealth from waste. Briquettes have been recognized as ‘white coal’ and this fuel is an ideal replacement for coal, husk, wood logs and other kinds of conventional fuel for steam heat generation.

The briquetting of coal started almost 50 years ago and later economic pressure joined forces with all kinds of technological progress. This process evolved in US and is thought to be the first process of drying coal then crushing and screening it. The dry coal is mixed with 6% of molten asphalt binder. The mixer was briquetted in roll type briquetting machine and then cooled on a conveyor.

In United States alone, over 6 million tons of coal briquettes are produced annually but the process was further doomed due to coming up of cheap oil in the market. Such kinds of briquettes are primarily used for domestic heating and attempts were being made to forgo the binder.

Usually the briquettes that are made with binders are pressed at low temperatures. The success of the process typically depends upon crushing or deforming the particles in order to bring them closer. The forces that bind these crystals are neither specific nor strong.

Over the years, biomass as renewable source of energy has been much favorable. The advantages of biomass briquetting is by no means limited to modern industrial plants but also used in domestic purpose. The other favorable characteristics of renewable fuel processed in briquette machinery are high volumetric density, less dust while handling, low water content and the option to increase or decrease additives.
